A Twenty20 game often referred to as the T20 league is a form of cricket which involves the participation of two teams, each having single innings and is batting for a maximum of twenty overs, hence the name Twenty20. T20 cricket now exists at its most heightened state, and it exists there because of two primary reasons. First being the commercial benefit it brings to everyone involved in the process, starting from the players to the investors and the second being the psychological shift in the game that was a result of the alterations bought over by the T20 cricket. Everything starting from the financing of the sport to its calendar has changed. It is more like a trade-off, which is a downside since it acts as a new responsibility or more like a burden for the batsmen but towards the end, the financial gain makes up for all of it.

The huge amount of monetary gain made through the franchise based tournaments and leagues have made it more stagnant and prominent, it has become the first preference, following the lead of IPL. The major success of the T20 tournament is somewhere because of the unending media attention the games have received resulting into an aroused interest towards the game amongst the audience. The ever so glamorous league has always had its share of pomp and glamor with all the famous personalities and the entertaining format that has been recently adopted.

The audience which on one hand has always been a fan of the usual one-day international matches and the test matches probably believe that this form of the sport has a better entertainment quotient and is more lively and fun to watch, hence resulting in the huge worldwide success of T20 cricket. The leagues like IPL etc have given a more glamorous touch to the game which attracts the audience’s eye and is a good way of promoting this particular form of cricket using celebrities as the brand ambassadors and owners of the team. Cricket boards and franchises have seen this as a great opportunity to put their money minded minds to use and what better way than cricket?

Cricket although is a very selective sport unlike soccer and is not played worldwide but it still has hardcore fans who literally worship cricket in countries like India and Pakistan and these countries, where one is sure that this form of sport will be a hit, has always been on the targets and a successful one at that. No doubt, the world of cricket is full of more glamor than ever before, more money than ever before and is more popular among the audience than ever before for the very many reasons mentioned before.

Starting from the jerseys of the players to the boundaries of the stadium to the huge hoardings, all are seen advertising one product or the other. During the television broadcasting of the matches, every inch of ad space garners great sums of money and are the advertisements avoidable? No. one is compelled to watch them and they are a chance of sure shot money for the investors and promoters.

In closing, it can be safely said that T20 matches like IPLs etc have secured their place in the cricket world and are a great source of entertainment for the audience plus a great source of income and financial gain for the franchisees, investors, players, promoters and everyone involved in the process. Yes, they are becoming popular worldwide and are coming across as a more entertaining version of the game for the same reasons listed above including the pomp and show and the increased glamor quotient. Nonetheless, it is indeed a great source of entertainment, cricket has always been one, and will continue to garner more success as long as the audience is happy and satiated with the content and the quality of the game which has not really suffered but has only improved because of the continuous pressure over the players to perform better in every match.
